Summer heat: Where to go

In the summer months Madrid can get pretty hot. Since it is surrounded by land, the heat is a dry heat. This is good because humidity and hot weather are a dreadful experience when walking around touring a city.

At the same time though dry heat can still be pretty unbearable when no shade can be found and long walks are being made. Solutions to hot days that the locals also participate in is to go to one of the various pools in Madrid or go to a water park. One place many people go to is Canal de Isabel II.

There is a sports club where you can go swimming, play golf, soccer, sailing, tennis and more. If you’re not a fan of these types of activities, you can always find a park for some shade from the trees or hang out in one of the shopping centers.

Madrid and Traditions

Madrid is famous for its city squares, Gran Via, bullfighting and of course monuments and museums. Some of the top attractions in this vibrant city are Plaza de Espana and Plaza del Callao, Victory Arch, and the Metropolis Building on Gran Via and Alcalà and they can all be reached from any hotel in Madrid.

Madrid’s El Prado Museum and Reina Sofia Museum are also two of the city’s must stops, holding an amazing collection of European art, in the former, and 20th century art, in the latter. If you want to shop and be where all the action is Gran Via is the street everyone will indicate for you to go to. Shops, pubs, cafés and night clubs are located here and everywhere around Madrid; and thanks to the great metro system no matter what Madrid hotel you are staying at you can get around with no difficulty whatsoever.

Madrid Transport: Makes it Easy to get from the Airport to Downtown

Something great for the Madrid traveler is the Madrid transportation system. Metros in Madrid run from early morning until about two in the morning. There are more than ten different lines, with connections and easy access to every part of the city. When you arrive at the Madrid Barajas Airport one of the most tedious things to plan if you don’t want to take a taxi and are looking to save is managing to find a cheap way to get downtown. Well, in Madrid you will not have this problem.

There is a metro line that takes you from the airport to downtown and gives you the opportunity to get to other metro lines through the connecting stations, eventually leading you to your destination. It takes at least twenty to thirty minutes to reach a downtown metro location that can then move you along, but it is worth it and it is not thirty or forty Euros (which is pretty much the cost of taking a Madrid taxi).
